Electrodes have a tendency to pick up atmospheric moisture. Such electrodes gives porous weld and fuse slowly. Beside, the arc is not forceful and there is attrendant spatter. To eliminate weld defect and to ensure radiographic quality welds, always dry electrodes before use. The temperature for electrodes has been given as under for various types.
